From the Archive - October 2025
Dear Friend,
You know, I don’t see the moon often enough, not anymore. Last place we lived, there was a 100-year-old red barn out back, and behind that, a hayfield. Farther still, at the top of the hill, an apple orchard to the north and a band of trees to the south. Over that hill, the moon would rise. Luminous, always a comfort, but shifting its position with the seasons. Steadfast and yet ever-changing.
Here in our new neighborhood, trees hide the moonrise, and so I have to try harder. I think that’s okay—to earn the feeling of watching a full moon (or a crescent) leave the horizon far below.
I’ve been thinking about how we need things to look forward to. There’s something essential about knowing something good is coming our way. An album release, a movie we can’t wait to see, a holiday, time with friends.
Or even really good mail... because as long as there have been letters to send and receive, someone has waited on the porch steps or checked out the front window over and over (buzzing with the sweet tingle of anticipation), looking for the mail truck and its bounty of envelopes packed like little suitcases with news, family stories, heartbreak, humor… love.
Connection. Which is why one of the extras you see in your envelope is a postcard you can either keep or send to someone who would love to hear from you.
In a season when most things are winding down for the winter, this mail club is starting to bloom and flourish. Would you believe we’ve grown to 83 members in four countries?
Thank you for choosing something that takes time to reach you, for going all in on the sweet joy of waiting for something lovely. It all means more than I can say to share this with you.
Hey, let’s catch the next moonrise on November 5, if weather cooperates. The closest full moon to Earth in 2025, so you know it will be a stunner. I think we’ll throw on a sweater and go to the beach to watch it.
